I'm Awkward

So recently 2 of my friends...who will remain nameless... told me that I am one of the most awkward people they have ever met. I was totally mad and sad about this because when I think of someone awkward I think, acne, high water pants, no social skills...you catch my drift right? So who in the WORLD would want to be categorized as such. I finally am beginning to understand a little bit about what they are saying. The most awkward things are always happening to me (hello, did you read the K-Mart post???) and I have 2 stories to add to the mix. And these have both been within the week.
Situation Number 1:
*In no way shape or form am I making fun of those with special needs....I would NEVER do that.
So my friend Christin was up visiting from Salt Lake this weekend, which was a blast, and we found ourselves at the Logan Aquatic Center. We are there laying out when I am approached by a boy I have had about a million conversations with. Yes, beelines it for me. Now this boy, let's call him Pete, is pretty interesting. I have ignored the boners, the constant boob stares and awkward conversations because I have been under the impression he is special needs. After some investigating I found out, nope not special needs after all. Here's some highlights from our conversations:

-Tells me that its nice to talk to someone my age because it makes him feel young...yeah I can only imagine you know being the crypt keeper I am at the age of 25...
-Asks to take a picture of me in my swimsuit because "I look really nice in swimsuits"
-Asks me if I think I look nice in a swimsuit...when I say not really he starts to name what looks nice in a swimsuit
-Makes fun of me from being from boogerville. Boogerville you ask, let me break down the convo, Provo-where the cougars play-the cougs-aka the boogs-and that's where Boogerville comes from.
-Asks if I am married, have a boyfriend, or if I am interested in having him as my boyfriend.

Gee thanks Christin for letting me take this one on my own. I hope you retained a lot of information from "reading your book" during all this....

Situation Number 2:

So one of my greatest friends is a homosexual, let's also call him Pete. So Pete and I wound up working out at the gym together, and cherry on top his mom was there too. So, he takes me over to reacquainted and I head off to the StairMaster. After my workout I am walking by her treadmill and I politely wave...she then waves me over. So I take out my headphone and she literally corners me with this conversation:
-I think you are really cute, do you think you could change Pete's mind? I wanted to be like lady, been there done that. And trust me, they aren't buying what I am selling, they are not picking up what I am putting down.
-As a parent what should I do about this...then here comes the tears. I am really sorry, I have no
idea. I have no children, I am not a parent, I don't know.
-I know Pete confides in you, so I have taken your number from his phone and I would like to check in with you so you can tell me what he is really doing.....
-It's nice that he is still going to church with you (which he is not) right? Katie he has been going to church with you right....
-I am just glad he has not been acting out on these feelings (which he has) right? Katie he hasn't been acting out on these feeling right....

Yeah, I literally had a 20 minute conversation with her about this. Kind of stuck in a rough position here....

In lighter, non awkward news it was Summerfest this weekend in Logan. I seriously love the summers up here. Perfect weather, perfect location, love it love it. I did get to go and see a cover band of THE BEATLES called Get Back. I would say they did a pretty good job, I mean they have had some tough competition. Hello....have you ever heard of A Touch of Silk a temptations cover band in Wendover. Yeah, didn't hold a candle to them but they were pretty good. In fact, why don't you go ahead and enjoy this picture of me with A Touch of Silk and if any of you are interested I do have their CD....just let me know.

(Note, the Asian women in the middle is not in the band...just our Fun Bus Coordinator)

And another highlight from Summerfest....Funnelcake. Hello, heaven. As embarrassing as this is to say, this is the ONLY thing I bought at Summerfest. I went so far as to do some inquiries about figuring out how to make them, and then I looked down at the muffin-top and reminded myself that this would be a VERY BAD idea. So I just savored my half of the funnelcake....

Okay, situation number 1 was pretty awkward, but not that bad as it is a person you don't have any kind of personal connection with. However, situation number 2 that is WAY beyond awkward, and sad too.

I want some of that funnel cake! I haven't had any in years, I resisted the last two times we were in Santa Cruz, but that really looks good.

Have fun this weekend without me :(

Oh my goodness Katherine! I don't think I could be you because your friends are right it's all akward!
Situation 1= odd, maybe a bit annoying, off putting (I love that phrase). Situation 2= very, very akward and extremely sad. I might be tempted to change my phone number.

Ok, how in the world did you get guy #1 to go away? That is just creepy! As for #2, yikes. Does he know that his mom talked to you about all of this? I seriously would consider changing my number too!
p.s. the story behind the "lice mullet" was that Melanie had really thick beautiful long hair and ended up catching lice from school in like 4 or 5th grade so my mom finally had to cut her hair all off after she was sent home from school three days in a row. Not only did she cut it off, it was in the best mullet you have ever seen!! So sad, but you definitely need to see the pictures!

Okay, so I see awkward and it fits. But I think it's good because I love those moments where you're thinking, Are you kidding me?!? It's really hard being a mom because I'm usually just shopping with me, my five year old and baby and I can't have that look with someone that says . . . Are you seeing/hearing this?!? So, then I have to call Ansen or Lisa and describe the situation which is never as good as in person (minus k-mart situation). So enjoy that there's someone to share the awkwardness with.

There is one Ansen and I have to call eachother about everytime we see it though (which is surprisingly too often). There's a bumper sticked that says "If you're riding my A**, you better be pulling my hair." Who? What? Then we describe that sort of person as we pass them that would put that on their car. So I'm way off subject.

Anyway, just talked to my dad and they have made it back to the Americas safety and are point of the mountain.

You're a doll! Isn't it funny how just the work "Awkward" is awkward looking! I have had the gay friend-mom talk too. Not fun.

I have been trying to figure out which ones on your blog are you sisters. I am excited to check out hot garlic.

KATIE!!! Can you say AWKWARD! Sounds like stuff that happened to me when I was single. So funny, you really have random things happen to you. But gives us all entertainment. Funnel cake sounds so good right now! MAN!!

WHAT?!! I'm trying to think of something really awkward to say right now...but I don't think I can top the Boob-Looker or Crying-Mom-in-Gym-Over-Son-Who-She-Apparently-Doesn't-Know-Too-Well. You win again, Kate.

Kate you have a blog! I wish I could be in that Wendover picture with you... so close. I heard a rumor that Jazzy J is a fun bus host now. Actually it's not a rumor, he told my husband (his boyfriend). We're coming to visit in July, so get the pull-out couch ready!

I don't know if you know this or not, but there are no gay people in Utah. None.
