Happy Cinco de Mayo! Well, I do realize this is a day late so sorry about that. But I did want to share probably the funniest staff luncheon there ever was. I am pretty sure I have made it so I will never be planning a staff luncheon again, but it was hilarious! Belinda and I decided that we were going to throw a Mexican Fiesta for our monthly staff luncheon. We got our friend Barbara to join in the fun....here's the staff luncheon invite.
Seriously everyone was laughing so hard. Especially because we have a WIDE range of ages, personalities ect in this office so it always makes things even funnier. Now, we didn't skimp on this party let me tell you. We went ahead and made this a pot luck so we had quite the spread. We wanted to make it as realistic as possible so we borrowed a bunch of stuff from Multicultural Student Services. We had fiesta music blasting, sombrero's everywhere, Pina Colada's and some people even chose to dress up. We even made this backdrop for a photo shoot. I had a rule that there was no smiling....once again I would say success.
I am glad that Casey couldn't even put the taco down for the picture! We also had everyone hold the Pina Colada bottle in EVERY picture. And in case you were wondering, photo's were not optional. This was a manditory photo shoot. And really, what kind of Mexican Fiesta would this be without a Pinata??? We found a way to propel this from the ceiling right there in the hospitality room of the admissions office.
Thanks to Jenn for busting the thing open. And of course we didn't skimp on the candy....You might be noticing that Belinda and I are wearing the same shirt. She is Hispanic and every year her family has these HUGE family reunions in Texas. So her and I came to the party in her matching family reunion shirts. Thanks Lopez family for letting us borrow them! Everyone kept asking me what the shirt said and I had no idea...it was all written in Spanish. Gringo mistake.
And last but not least it was LIMBO time. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my whole life. Seriously, if you work in an office just imagine everyone in your office doing the LIMBO. Think about it. Like seriously close your eyes and imagine your office doing the limbo. Best thing ever right? And in all seriousness I don't know a better way to boost the moral of the place than by getting out the ol' Limbo stick.

way better than our staff lunch of taco bell.
I closed my eyes. I pictured my coworkers doing the limbo. I smiled. I opened my eyes and started planning an Office Limbo Party. Thank you.
I want to work in YOUR office! This is hillarious! Isn't it great having a multicultural center at your apparel disposal? They had some great stuff!
Memo to me: implement a monthly luncheon so I can see my co-workers limbo in sombreros someday.
I can't even imagine doing the limbo with my office. Too many worker's comp claims! We had Jimboys (a CA Mexican take out place) for lunch and all ended up with heartburn! Can you tell I work with all old people? Most of us are counting the days till we retire...
You do make an adorable senorita.
Katie you never cease to amaze me!! I cannot believe you pulled off such an event! Everything was AWESOME! You go! Hey let me know when you are down this way, I would love to meet you for lunch!
I want to work there! Looks like you planned an awesome party. Love your pictures, you are hilarious.
If I ever have to get another job I want it to be where ever you are! You are hilarious! I'm sure that I cannot even begin to imagine how fun your Cinco de Mayo/limbo party was, but I know that I'm sad not to have been a part of it.
You've done it once again old girl, fabulous, fabulous post. I loved every second of it. The pictures, the dialoge, brilliant. You are a true genius Katie Gildea, Genius!
muy bueno kate! hahaha, again you never cease to make me laugh while reading your post. even funnier-i don't want to picture my co-workers limboing, that's a scary thought! i will have to tell our lunch planning committee about this one- you have totally one upped them!
ps- i think the first picture of you is fantastic! i love the sombrero- i think it deserves to be the facebook profile pic!
I have to say this could be an episode from "The Office". Would you consider yourself more of a phillis or an Angela on the party planning comittee?
wow. this is quite possibly one of the greatest staff lunches of all time. I also feel like this could be an episode of the office. xoxo
It really was the greatest staff luncheon! It was a good one for me to go out on...but I miss you guys a lot. That picture of Jeff and the processors is priceless. You should email me the rest of the photos if you get a chance. Good times!
Did you get your inspiration for the no smiling pictures from Melanie's photo shoot with her friends as the polygamist wives?! haha I also loved the family reunion shirts. Nice touch.
Katie you are hilarious...I think you are wrong though...I think you will be planning ALL future staff parties! Who else would come up with this stuff???
You've always had a thing for the Latin culture:)
I'm just wondering why you didn't implement that tradition a few years ago so I could have seen the likes of Les, Nneji, Jimmy and Renee do the limbo???
I totally want to work with you. Your coworkers are so lucky.
