So this last weekend I volunteered for my 3rd year at the MS 150 Bike Tour. This has seriously become one of my favorite things about the summer. Even though it is a LOT of work with early morning and lots of manual labor (those who know me, you know that really isn't my style) but it is for a good cause so why not! Here's me, Nick and Christin headed off at 5:30 am to get the party started! I feel like we already look pretty hammered and this is Day 1..before we did any work....Here's the volunteers hanging out with Tara...aka the Event Coordinator for the MS Society. She also happens to be my good friend, and that's why I volunteer!
We were all team leaders this year, you know having done the event before, so here we are hanging out while the newbies work. Just kidding...well kind of....And is is just me or do we all look really nice in florescent orange, or cantaloupe as Christin kept calling it. Call it what you want, but at the end of the day I have something to wear during hunting season...finally!
Here's Nick doing his self appointed "Honey Bucket" (porta potty) duty....hard at work... So then I joined him because I figured he could use some help..... Here's Christin filling the water bottles, she asked me to take a picture of her working so we could show that to people. You know, to prove that we were in fact working...which we were...part of the time...but unfortunately those picture of me working are on Nick's camera. So you will have to take my word for it. Well, actually, here's a picture of Nick and I hard at work eating a sandwich....This really was the first time we had eaten in hours and we were pretty ravenous. And apparently, this is when Nick got too hot for his shirt so he had to strip to the tank. Oh the tank, just you wait for the treat I have at the end of this post regarding the tank....Here's Christin and I taking our Special Event Leader badges pretty seriously. Seriously, if you give me and inch with the power I take a mile (not as much as some did though). Every time my badge was turned around I made sure to switch it back around. I wish I was lying about this...
Here's me on the final load from the lunch spot on day 2. Seriously, I have never been so sweaty in my whole life, I was sweating in places I didn't know existed (sorry too much information I am sure) but seriously truth be told. It was like 98 degrees (not the band...but gosh who doesn't love a little Nick Lachey) outside in the hot sun loading a diesel. Seriously, I was loading a diesel. This is the final load of the bananas, so naturally we figured we better document.
I am so glad I got to volunteer again this year, we really had a terrific time. And like I said, it was some early mornings, lots of sun, manual labor and hard work but it was worth it. And plus, it didn't affect me as bad as some....

That last picture of Nick is the most white trash picture ever! Sorry Nick.
Funny pictures and great story telling as always. And good for you volunteering and all. I didn't realize you were that concerned with MS research and all of that.
Katie you do-gooder you. Always trying to help others! :) The mantank sunburn is CLASSIC!!! I also don't mind a little Nick Lachey either. hehe
Um... My favorite part of the last picture of me would not be the tank lines, but the mexi-stache I'm sporting. And don't even apologize Nicole, it is quite possible the worst picture ever taken of me... anyone for the matter. But in my defense it was about 5:30am and I had been awake for about 15 seconds.
Wow, looks like you 3 are willing to work for a good cause, especially if the good cause is yourselves enjoying a day of goofing off -or "screwing around" as Dad says. Seriously, you really worked hard and you deserve a big, golden star!
Great pics! I'm sure it was hard work, but it looks like a blast! Love the tank lines and the "mexi-stash"!
Oh man, I hope you didn't tell the people who ATE those bananas that you laid your sweaty self on them :).
(It's so hard to write something like that and have it not sound really mean. You would hear me laughing as I said this if it was in the spoken word, I assure you.)
Just love to see Nick and Katie together. Reminds me of the good old days.
hey remember when I rode it last year and saw you there? I live in San Diego now so I didn't get to see your cute face this year:-(
You look absolutely beautiful in all the pictures. really, I'm not one of those people that gives vain compliments (we all know someone like that). It looks like you had a lot of fun. I can't remember the last time I volunteered for something.
Cute post Katie, I enjoyed the pics and am proud of my volunteer daughter!
Love yOu for volunteering! When they find a cure for MS, you will be the first one I thank... haha. You rock..
